Red Light Therapy 101

At The CALMM, we’re always looking for ways to provide deeper healing. Our treatments are designed to release tension, remove energetic blocks, and boost your immune system – with LED (light emitting diode) therapy, we can treat you at the cellular level.
Red Light Therapy (RLT) was originally researched and developed by NASA, where astronauts used low-level light to grow plants and heal cuts while in space. This low-level light therapy is called photobiostimulation and offers therapeutic benefits. Red light helps compromised cells regenerate, treats injuries, reduces pain, relaxes muscles and joints, and improves blood circulation.
Our Red Light Therapy blanket is a whole-body, non-invasive, painless treatment that requires no recovery time and can be used on all skin types. By exposing your entire body to the benefits of near-infrared light, this therapy allows you to target multiple areas of concern in a single session. The more skin exposed, the better the results.
The benefits of light therapy have been heavily researched, documented, and experienced by millions. Low-level LED light energy works on the body at the cellular level, stimulating the mitochondria to produce more ATP (energy). Different combinations of light wavelengths are used to provide a range of benefits, including:
THE BENEFITS
- Whole-body vitality
- Improved circulation, mobility, and performance

How Does LED Light Therapy Work?
Similar to how plants use chlorophyll to convert sunlight into energy, high-intensity light-emitting diodes (LEDs) using specific, proven wavelengths can trigger a natural biostimulatory effect in human tissue. Research has shown that LED phototherapy can increase circulation, accelerate tissue repair, kill acne-causing bacteria, reduce inflammation, and improve skin tone, texture, and clarity. It can also decrease under-eye wrinkles and relieve muscle and joint pain, stiffness, and spasms, including pain from arthritis.
Cells absorb particles of light (photons) and convert their energy into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy cells use to function. This increase in ATP powers metabolic processes, helping to synthesize DNA, RNA, proteins, enzymes, and other products needed to repair or regenerate cell components, encourage cell proliferation, and restore homeostasis. In simpler terms, LED phototherapy provides compromised cells with extra energy to enhance their performance. For example, fibroblast cells will produce more collagen and elastin in connective tissue, improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and speeding up wound healing.
