Why You Feel Puffy (Even When You’re Healthy)
You’re eating well. Drinking water. Moving your body. And yet, you still feel puffy, heavy, or like something just isn’t shifting.
It’s one of the most common things we hear in the treatment room. And more often than not, it’s not about what you’re doing wrong, it’s about what’s not moving.
Your lymphatic system is responsible for clearing excess fluid, waste, and toxins from the body. But unlike your circulatory system, it doesn’t have a pump. It relies on movement, breath, and the surrounding tissues, particularly fascia, to keep things flowing.
When that flow slows down, things start to build up.
You might notice:
- Puffiness in the face, especially in the morning
- A heavy or swollen feeling in the body
- Fluid retention around the stomach, legs, or arms
- That “I feel off but I don’t know why” sensation
And here’s where it gets interesting.
Fascia, the connective tissue that wraps around everything in your body, plays a huge role in this. When fascia becomes tight or restricted (from stress, posture, injury, or emotional holding), it can limit the movement of fluid through the body.
Think of it like this: your lymphatic system is trying to flow, but it’s moving through a body that’s gripping. And most of us are gripping more than we realise.
Stress, long hours sitting, shallow breathing, even emotional tension, it all adds up. The body subtly tightens, and over time, that tension becomes your baseline. This is where lymphatic and fascial work can be incredibly powerful.
At The CALMM, our treatments are designed to:
- encourage lymphatic drainage
- release fascial restriction
- support circulation
- and gently bring the body back into a state of flow
It’s not about forcing anything. It’s about creating the conditions for your body to do what it’s designed to do - move, drain, and reset.
So if you’ve been feeling puffy, heavy, or a little stuck, your body might not need more effort. It might just need flow.
